New TB hospital opened in Bishkek

A new TB hospital was opened in Bishkek. Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

«Today we are opening a modern clinic equipped with new equipment, built as part of the grant project «Programme to combat tuberculosis — V». Since 1992, the German Development Bank (KFW) has provided our country with more than €298 million in various fields. We highly appreciate the disinterested aid of Germany, including during the global pandemic,» said Edil Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, stressing that the Kyrgyz side was interested in the comprehensive strengthening of bilateral relations.

The Ambassador of Germany to Kyrgyzstan Gabriela Guellil noted that the field of healthcare was one of the areas of cooperation between the two countries. She wished the staff of the new hospital success in the fight against tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.

The city TB hospital is designed for 128 beds. There are wards for the treatment of drug-resistant, sensitive, open and closed forms of tuberculosis. The radiological department and intensive care unit have all the necessary medical equipment. The laboratory has a hematological, biochemical, urinary, ELISA analyzers. The hospital has a modern exhaust ventilation system, HEPA filters (do not pass out the microbes), the air is disinfected when it passes through ultraviolet bactericidal lamps. The total budget of the TB hospital is €6.5 million.

The main building of the hospital stands on the site of the former one, which was built in the late 1930s. The old building was demolished.
