The head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Beishenaliev, commented on the situation around the director of the Bishkek school No. 61 Yuri Nizovsky.
The official said that he learned about the detention of the head of the school from the Internet.
«The State Committee for National Security detained him. I, like everyone else, learned about it from the Internet. Yes, such a problem exists (corruption in schools). One of the ways to solve it comprehensively is to hold a competition. The fact that one person holds a position for a long time can create corruption risks. Therefore, we are introducing such a mechanism as a competition for a director’s position every five years,» he said.
The director of the school No. 61 Yuri Nizovsky was detained by the State Committee for National Security. According to the state committee, a criminal case was initiated against him on the fact of corruption.
According to the presidential decree, principals of 966 schools must be replaced by the beginning of the new academic year, since they have been in office for more than five years. Yuri Nizovsky refused to participate in the competition, considering this process humiliating.
