Rally in support of Farid Niyazov held in Bishkek

A rally in support of the former head of Presidential Administration Farid Niyazov is held in Maxim Gorky Park in Bishkek.

About 50 people gathered to support him. Deputy of the Bishkek City Council Kadyrbek Atambayev, wife of the former president Almazbek Atambayev, Raisa Atambayeva, relatives and supporters of the convict are among them.

The protesters ask to place Farid Niyazov under house arrest.

«He is the only one left in the remand prison, except for Almazbek Atambayev. He doesn’t have a sentence, the former president does. He has been in custody for more than two and a half years. He needs to be placed under house arrest to be examined and treated. He is a law-abiding man and will not hide from the investigation,» his brother Nazar Niyazov said.

«There are three charges against Farid Niyazov: that he allegedly held hostages during the Koi Tash events, on Orhan Inanda’s passport and the October events, where he was on the side of the victims. This is proved by the shooting footage of those days. All the charges fell apart when examined in detail in court. He is an elderly person, and quite seriously ill. Keeping him in the remand prison is deathlike,» Kadyrbek Atambayev said.

A check was launched on issue of a passport to Orhan Inandi. The capital’s Main Department of Internal Affairs reported that the Sapat director has dual citizenship. He received a Kyrgyz passport in 2012.

Former head of state Almazbek Atambayev and the former presidential chief of staff Farid Niyazov are defendants in the case.
