Some settlements in Kyrgyzstan to get village status

Parliament proposes to grant the status of villages to some settlements in Kyrgyzstan. The proposal was announced today at the meeting.

There are more than 150 settlements that do not have the status of a village. These are Maksat and Jezken in Batken region, Kotkor in Jalal-Abad region, Ak-Orgoo and Uluu-Too in Osh region.

Local residents at village meetings decided to classify these settlements as villages. In their opinion, this will allow the local community to exercise its constitutional rights and independently resolve issues of local importance that provides new opportunities for improvement.
