20 priority for development cities chosen in Kyrgyzstan

The government of Kyrgyzstan today presented the concept of regional development. As part of the program, it is planned to focus efforts on the development of 20 pilot cities and towns.

According to the Deputy Economy Minister Daniyar Imanaliev, the regions developed unevenly for various reasons after gaining independence. This gave an impetus to the redistribution of the population of Kyrgyzstan.

«For example, Bishkek, Chui and Issyk-Kul regions make the main contribution to the GDP of the country. Internal migration flows to Bishkek, because the regions do not have infrastructure and production facilities. Therefore, we propose to determine the points of development of the regions. We chose those cities that have good potential and offer their spot development. We looked at their geographical location, infrastructure and production potential," Daniyar Imanaliev said.

He noted that the pilot cities were determined in such a way that their development would improve the living conditions in neighboring regions.

The pilot cities and towns are Bishkek, Tokmak, Kara-Balta, Karakol, Balykchy, Naryn, Kochkor, Talas, Osh, Uzgen, Jalal-Abad, Kara-Suu, Sary-Tash, Batken, Isfana, Kadamdzhay, Tash-Kumyr, Kara-Kul, Kerben, Kochkor Ata.

«These cities and towns have infrastructure. On their basis, we can construct economic development. We pay attention to the fact that raw materials produced in the regions should be processed there. We must create centers for providing services to the population, create conditions for recreation, open business incubators. The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund will help the population of these regions with low-interest loans for housing," Daniyar Imanaliev said.
