In Samarkand, the countries of Central Asia signed a document on the joint protection of the region’s mountain ecosystems and wildlife, Podrobno.uz reports.
The document was signed during the 8th Assembly of the Global Environment Facility. Forum participants also discussed the conservation of biodiversity, transboundary ecological corridors, and rare animal species, including snow leopards, argali, and saiga antelopes. Participants paid special attention to climate change, land degradation, and habitat fragmentation.
The new GEF funding cycle will expand investments in projects to protect wildlife, sustainably manage mountain ecosystems, support local communities, and support monitoring and knowledge sharing in the region.
