Head of Nagorno-Karabakh signs decree ending existence of the republic

The head of Nagorno-Karabakh Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree ending the existence of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh from January 1 next year, Sputnik Armenia reports.

The document states that «in connection with the current difficult military-political situation, based on the priority of ensuring the physical security and vital interests of the people of Artsakh, taking into account the agreement reached through the mediation of the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent with representatives of Azerbaijan that free, voluntary and unimpeded passage of residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, including military personnel who have laid down their arms, with their property on their vehicles along the Lachin corridor and guided by Article 93 of the Constitution of Nagorno-Karabakh, it was decided to dissolve all state institutions and organizations under their departmental subordination until January 1, 2024, and the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) ceases to exist.»

It is clarified that the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, including those located outside the republic, after the decree enters into force, should familiarize themselves with the conditions of reintegration presented by Azerbaijan in order to subsequently make an independent and individual decision on the possibility of staying or returning to Nagorno-Karabakh.

On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of «local anti-terrorist measures» in Nagorno-Karabakh.

On September 20, the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh actually capitulated. They decided on a ceasefire and disarmament.
