At least 88 people convicted of sexual assault and rape of minors have been released from prison since the beginning of 2022. Their prison terms were replaced with probation. Deputy Zhanar Akaev announced this at a meeting of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
According to him, one of those convicted of raping a teenage girl returned to his victim after his release and repeated the abuse. She got pregnant.
«The facts are terrifying. More than 100 people convicted of child abuse have been released. There is a bill regarding such crimes, it was developed by a group of deputies. I propose to adopt it in the second and third readings. Judges found loopholes in the laws. I believe that probation should not be applied to those convicted of sexual abuse of children,» the deputy said.
Zhanar Akaev was supported by his colleagues. Marlen Mamataliev noted that an amendment to the Criminal Code was adopted a year ago, according to which mitigating circumstances are not applied to rapists.
