Man buys extremist books at Osh market and gets in prison

The Manas District Court found a 61-year-old man guilty under the article «Manufacture, distribution of extremist materials» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Verdict of the court says.

The accused was previously convicted of kidnapping and robbery and sentenced to seven years in prison. He was under house arrest within the current criminal case.

«According to investigators, 13 books of an extremist nature were found and confiscated during a search of the house. The examination showed that they contain the ideology of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami organization banned in Kyrgyzstan. The accused pleaded guilty during the trial. According to him, while being in Bishkek, he bought religious books at Osh market, read them, but did not agitate anyone. Police officers, as the man told, came to his house, began to conduct a search, and then confiscated the books. He asked to give him a lenient sentence,» the verdict states.

As a result, the court sentenced the man to two years in prison. He was taken into custody in the courtroom.
