Child mortality decreases by 73 percent over 30 years in Kyrgyzstan

Child mortality has decreased by 73 percent over 30 years in Kyrgyzstan. Press center of the Ministry of Health reported.

According to it, the level of child mortality in Kyrgyzstan has been steadily declining. By 2030, the national indicator of neonatal mortality in Kyrgyzstan is expected to be not more than 12 cases per 1,000 live births.

«Data of the UN Inter-Agency Group show significant progress in reducing child mortality: compared to the 1990 level, the decrease reached 73 percent. According to the National Statistical Committee, over the past 15 years, Kyrgyzstan has managed to reduce mortality among newborns as a whole (from 19 per 1,000 live births in 2004 to 12.7 in 2020), while mortality among children in the first week of life has decreased by 40 percent, and stillbirths — by 32.6 percent,» the ministry noted.

At the same time, despite the progress, about 2,000 newborns do not live up to 1 month and more than 1,400 stillbirths are registered every year in the republic.
