Bribe of $50,000: Emil Zhamgyrchiev acquitted

The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek has completed the proceedings against the ex-deputy head of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes, Emil Zhamgyrchiev.

Earlier, the prosecutor Tamara Tilekeeva asked to find the defendant guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison. The lawyer asked the court to acquit the client, noting that the defendant’s guilt had not been proven during the investigation and court proceedings.

Leaving the deliberation room, the judge Mirlan Termechikov issued a verdict of not guilty. According to the court decision, there is no corpus delicti in the actions of Emil Zhamgyrchiev.

The court recognized the defendant’s right to rehabilitation.

Emil Zhamgyrchiev and Baktybek Kalmuratov are accused of taking a bribe from a businessman for resolving issues within a criminal case on smuggling. Damage to the state in the amount of 20 million soms was repaid in February 2021. Both defendants were placed under house arrest. The victim Emir Emilkanov dropped his claims against the defendants in court.
