Kyrgyzstan restores right to vote in International Labor Organization

Kyrgyzstan only this year restored its right to vote in the International Labor Organization. Ryskul Babayeva, Deputy Chairwoman of the trade unions of Kyrgyzstan, announced this at a round table today.

According to her, this year for the first time in 20 years the representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, business and trade unions attended the ILO conference. This allowed restoring the rights of Kyrgyzstan in the organization. According to its rules, the state’s opinion is heard only if there are three aspects of the employment relations.

Kyrgyzstan has debts on membership fees in the International Labor Organization, which are prolonged until 2040.

«Since 2008, none of the labor protection conventions in Kyrgyzstan have been ratified, and the acting have been adopted in the time of the Soviet Union. We are working with the government and parliament, so that our republic to ratify other 5-6 conventions, including one on protection of motherhood and minimum social security standards,» Ryskul Babayeva said.

«We recently wanted to recognize the law on labor protection as invalid because some of its provisions are identical to the Labor Code. However, we are fighting for the law, because it must be. The issue is not finally resolved so far,» she added.
