Since joining the International Labor Organization (ILO), Kyrgyzstan has ratified 53 conventions and 1 protocol. Bolotbek Orokov, National Coordinator of the ILO in the Kyrgyz Republic, announced at a meeting of the Council on the Rights of Women, Children and Gender Equality.
According to him, this is one of the largest numbers of conventions among the CIS countries. Russia has ratified more than 60 conventions.
«Kyrgyzstan has been a member of the International Labor Organization since 1992. ILO states adopt those standards that are aimed at eradicating injustice, including gender inequality,» the ILO Coordinator noted.
In 2004, the first ILO project office was opened in Bishkek. Since then, this international organization, bringing together representatives of governments, entrepreneurs and workers, has been actively working to create conditions for decent work in the country.
It should be noted that during the meeting of the Council on the Rights of Women, Children and Gender Equality, the provisions of international labor standards on gender equality in the workplace were presented; it is planned to discuss gaps in their implementation, including at the legislative level, and the role of the Council in elimination of the gaps.
