Former mayor of Cholpon-Ata city Mirlan Maratov renounced thief’s ideas. The video was posted on social media.
«I, Mirlan Ilyichevich Maratov, born in 1976, a native of Cholpon-Ata, am registered as a member of the organized crime group of Kamchi Kolbaev. Today, I renounce thief’s ideas and undertake to live according to the laws of the Kyrgyz Republic,» he says in the video.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that Mirlan Maratov was detained in Bishkek as part of a criminal case initiated under Article 209 «Fraud» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to investigators, in the fall of 2021, the former mayor took $10,000 from a man. At the same time, at first he left a Lexus car, a registration certificate, and a power of attorney as collateral, but soon he came again and asked for the car back for a short while. After that he never came again, and, as it turned out, he sold the vehicle to other people.
The detainee was placed in a temporary detention facility.
Mirlan Maratov was previously prosecuted and is closely associated with crime kingpins.
The investigation into the fact continues.
