Duty-free import of goods up to €1,000 extended for six months

The threshold of duty-free import of goods for individuals will be €1,000 and 31 kilograms until April 1, 2024. The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reported.

On the initiative of the Russian side the increased threshold of duty-free import of goods for individuals was extended for another six months. The decision applies to goods that are bought by individuals and delivered by carrier or in mail, imported by luggage by all modes of transport, except air, or on foot.

If the value of the goods exceeds this amount or its weight is more than 31 kilograms, it will be necessary to pay a duty:

  • For goods transported by carrier or in mail — 15 percent of the value, but not less than €2 per 1 kilogram;
  • For goods imported by luggage — 30 percent of the value, but not less than €4 per 1 kilogram.

Recall, the threshold was raised on a temporary basis in 2022 to support citizens who order goods for personal use in foreign online stores. In March, it was extended until October 1, 2023. Previously, the threshold was €200 for goods transported by carrier or in mail, and €500 for goods imported by luggage by all means of transport except air or on foot.

The threshold for duty-free import by airplane remains at €10,000 and 50 kilograms.

The decision will enter into force in 10 calendar days from the date of publication and will apply to legal relations arising starting from October 1 of this year.
