President Jeenbekov responds to criticism about humanization of Criminal Code

«We must not only punish, but also educate, correct,» said the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov at a meeting of the Council for Judicial Reform.

He believes that the new codes are aimed at correcting and educating.

«There are, of course, some omissions. But in general, the new codes and laws, which will come into force in 2019, are aimed at a colossal legal reform,» the president stressed.

«Many criticize that the punishments are mitigated and humanized. Our law enforcement and judicial authorities should not be a punitive system. We must educate and correct our society. We cannot forget a person by isolating him from society, imprisoning him,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

According to the president, the increase in the number of district inspectors is connected with the prevention of crimes.

«Great responsibility is imposed on district officers. They will work in every village, in each family. Their goal is to prevent misconduct and crimes,» explained Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

The head of state instructed to create groups in each department which would conduct outreach work on the new codes.
