Kyrgyzstan proposes to make Russian language state one

Russian language is proposed to be made state one in Kyrgyzstan. The proposal was made by Irina Karamushkina, a deputy of the Parliament, at a meeting today.

Irina Karamushkina noted that there are countries with 5 state languages. «What happens if two languages — Russian and Kyrgyz — are state languages in Kyrgyzstan? For many, it became a limitation when entering the workplace one doesn’t speak the Kyrgyz language. I was asked by several people to help with finding a job, but they were denied because of not speaking the language,» she said.

All officials from January 1, 2018 are required to take an exam in the Kyrgyz language.

Deputy Kanybek Imanaliev stood up for the Kyrgyz language.

«Why a thesis on the history of Kyrgyzstan is being defended in Russian? How can one write a dissertation on Kyrgyz literature in Russian? In other areas, I agree, you can write works in Russian. But if we want to develop the state language, then scientific works should be written in it. It is troubling that millions of Kyrgyz people will not speak their native language,» he said.

Kozhobek Ryspaev called on officials not to break words. «Why did you translate «plane», «TV» ? This distorts the language. Kyrgyz should be developed, but not in this way,» he explained.
