MFA: Number of Kyrgyz migrants in Russia is declining

According to general statistics, the number of citizens of Kyrgyzstan residing in the Russian Federation is declining annually. Almazbek Baibosov, Deputy Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, announced at a briefing.

According to him, as of January 1 of this year, 472,336 Kyrgyzstanis were residing in Russia. According to updated data as of May 14, this figure was 502,000. The ministry attributes this localized increase to the onset of warmer weather and the departure of compatriots for seasonal work, but the figures are declining in the long term.

If we consider general statistics for recent years, the dynamics of the number of citizens of Kyrgyzstan in Russia are as follows:

  • 2022 — 587,089 people;
  • 2023 — 408,448 people;
  • 2024 — 656,304 people;
  • 2026 — 502,000 people.

Currently, 91,566 Kyrgyzstanis, who are on the so-called blacklist, are banned from entering Russia. Meanwhile, 6,271 Kyrgyzstanis were deported from Russia last year.

During the briefing, it was also noted that active efforts are currently underway to transfer citizens convicted in Russia to Kyrgyzstan to continue serving their sentences.

According to the latest data, 1,126 citizens of Kyrgyzstan are held in correctional facilities in the Russian Federation. The trend of their return to their homeland is as follows: 117 citizens were transferred to Kyrgyzstan in 2024, 232 last year, and as of May 21 of this year, 156 citizens have already been returned to their homeland.
