Ruslan Kazakbaev meets with Ambassador of Ukraine to Kyrgyzstan

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Kyrgyzstan Valery Zhovtenko at his request. Press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry reported.

They discussed issues of Kyrgyz-Ukrainian relations and the current situation in Ukraine.

Ruslan Kazakbaev noted that the world community failed to prevent an unprecedented crisis in the post-war history of Europe on the platforms of authoritative international organizations, in particular the UN Security Council, in connection with which the world is on the verge of a catastrophe now. It was especially noted that the position of Kyrgyzstan on the situation in Ukraine was openly voiced by the minister at all his meetings with his counterparts from various countries of the world.

Kyrgyzstan proceeds from the fact that any conflict must be resolved exclusively by political and diplomatic means at the negotiating table, and all interested parties need to look for any opportunities to resolve the situation, including by creating new formats and mechanisms if the existing ones have lost their effectiveness.

It is noted that Kyrgyzstan is a firm supporter of compliance with the universally recognized norms and principles of international law laid down in the UN Charter and other documents, including the territorial integrity of states and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. At the same time, the importance of observing the principle of indivisibility of security was emphasized.

The Foreign Minister welcomed the ongoing negotiations between representatives of Russia and Ukraine, any mediation efforts and initiatives of all countries aimed at ending the armed conflict and achieving peace, and also reaffirmed the readiness of the Kyrgyz side to provide a platform and assistance, if necessary.

Concern was expressed that the whole world, especially developing countries, would suffer from sanctions, which could result in a long-term economic downturn.

Ruslan Kazakbaev is concerned about the involvement of new countries and actors in the current conflict, which can lead to an aggravation of the conflict and new civilian casualties and destruction. The issues of safe evacuation of citizens of Kyrgyzstan and other countries from Ukraine, creation of appropriate corridors for these purposes, as well as the possibility of providing humanitarian assistance were also discussed.

The minister stressed that Kyrgyzstan calls on everyone to unite for a common peace. He noted that now it is more than ever important to hear each other.

Situation in Ukraine remains complicated. Fighting continues. Russia started a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of military and civilian casualties continues to grow. Many states have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions on Russia.
