Court sentences Kyrgyzstani to 5 years for participation in war in Ukraine

The Aravan District Court of Osh region on May 10 sentenced a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, accused of participation in the war in Ukraine as part of the Russian troops, to five years in prison. Azattyk reported, citing the press secretary of the Osh Regional Court.

According to the spokesman, the court found the man guilty under Article 256 «Participation of a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic in armed conflicts or hostilities in the territory of a foreign state or training to commit a terrorist act» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and sentenced him to five years in prison with confiscation of property. He will serve his sentence in a general regime prison colony.

The charge is grave and provides for a sentence from 10 to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. However, the court specified that in connection with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan and the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the defendant’s sentence was reduced in accordance with the law on pardon, and also due to the fact that one day in the pre-trial detention center is counted as two. In turn, the accused appealed the sentence of the District Court to the Osh Regional Court.
