Child labor most often used in southern Kyrgyzstan

The biggest number of facts of using child labor is registered in the south of Kyrgyzstan. This was said during the meeting of representatives of the International Labor Organization with the leadership of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the Federation of Trade Unions, active work is being done in the country to eradicate child labor in the tobacco industry, in cotton and rice fields.

It is reported that children in Nookat, Aravan, Ala Buka, Kadamjay regions are involved in watering, spraying toxic chemicals, collecting tobacco.

According to the Federation of Trade Unions, in 2016, out of 1,260 families, 2,613 children were suspended from tobacco field work, and from 2013 to 2016, a total of 11,876 children were withdrawn from tobacco industry.

As it was noted at the meeting, it is possible to reduce child labor only by raising the standard of living of farmers who grow tobacco.
