Motor Third Party Liability insurance (MTPL) has become mandatory when re-registering a car in Kyrgyzstan. The resolution was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers on August 9, 2024. It will come into force in 15 days from the date of official publication.
The document determines that when re-registering vehicles, installations and equipment owners must submit to the authorized body, in addition to other documents, also the contract on the Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability insurance (CMTPL).
Recall, the law on compulsory third party liability insurance of vehicle owners was adopted in Kyrgyzstan almost nine years ago. However, the deadlines for introducing penalties for the absence of a CMTPL insurance have been postponed several times.
According to the latest changes, individuals have time until January 1, 2025. But for vehicles owned or in the possession of legal entities, including government agencies, as well as owners and/or drivers of vehicles registered in other countries, the requirements came into force on April 1, 2023.
