Education Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan discuss brawl in Bishkek

The Education Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan discussed the brawl in Bishkek. The press service of the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

According to it, the meeting of ministers took place on May 20 in London, where they arrived to participate in the Education World Forum.

Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva told about the incident on May 18 in Bishkek involving foreign students, including citizens of Pakistan. The minister emphasized that the complete safety of students has been ensured and the situation is under the personal control of the president.

The Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training of Pakistan Khalid Siddiqui expressed gratitude for the clarification of the situation. He noted that he would inform the Prime Minister about the meeting, emphasized that the incident should not affect the education of Pakistani citizens, and expressed his readiness for interaction.

Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva invited her colleague to visit Kyrgyzstan and see the learning and living conditions of Pakistani students and discuss areas of cooperation.

A spontaneous protest against foreigners, which began in the evening of May 17 in Bishkek, ended only in the morning of May 18. The police managed to come to an agreement with the protesters, and they opened Chui Avenue, and dispersed a little later. According to the Ministry of Health, 41 victims sought medical help as a result of the mass brawl with foreigners in Bishkek.

Following a fight on May 13 in a hostel, which was one of the reasons for the protests, the police detained four citizens of Egypt; they were later placed under house arrest. A criminal case was initiated under the article «Hooliganism» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
