Kyrgyzstan resumes water supply to Kazakhstan

Water from Kirov reservoir, which was previously closed for Kazakhstan, is again supplied to Zhambyl region of the republic. The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov announced at a briefing, Informburo.kz reports.

He said that at the last meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Water Resources Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, an agreement was reached to resume the supply of water to the Republic of Kazakhstan from the Kirov reservoir.

«We met with the heads of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Water Resources Service of Kyrgyzstan and agreed to update the current conditions for the opening of the Kirov reservoir. Currently, 12 cubic meters of water are pumped from the reservoir, water is accumulated in the reservoirs of Zhambyl region,» Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said.

He explained that for two months, while access was closed, water was accumulated in the reservoir, which Kazakhstan will now receive.
