Women in Kyrgyzstan spend almost five times more time on unpaid housework compared to men. Baktybek Kudaibergenov, head of the National Statistical Committee, announced at a round table on gender development.
According to him, this indicator suggests that household chores hinder the professional growth of women.
It is noted that the duties of a housewife «eat up» 1.3 times more time of working women in villages than that of those living in cities.
At the same time, 63.4 percent of women of working age do not work because they take care of the house and raise children.
The round table participants also noted that women face discrimination when applying for a job.
