Tuberculosis epidemic in military unit: Criminal case sent to court

The Military Prosecutor’s Office of Bishkek garrison has completed a criminal investigation into the mass tuberculosis infection in a military unit of the Air Defense Forces. Own sources informed 24.kg news agency.

It is known that the charges were brought against three servicemen: the former head of the republican admission commission, the military commissar of Toguz-Toro district of Jalal-Abad region and the head of the Balykchy unit.

«All three servicemen are accused under the article «Abuse of office» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The criminal case on the merits will be considered by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek. The suspects are under house arrest,» the sources said.

The Ministry of Defense still did not report who of the Air Defense Forces’ commanders was punished for the incident.

It became known in February 2021 that seven soldiers of the Air Defense Forces anti-aircraft missile brigade were infected with tuberculosis. Their number increased later. The primary source of infection was a conscript from Toguz-Toro district of Jalal-Abad region. The soldier had an open form of tuberculosis, despite this his parents sent him to serve in the army. The soldier was first treated in the Bishkek Tuberculosis Hospital and later in the military hospital. The soldiers were discharged from hospitals, but they are unfit for military service. The Military Prosecutor’s Office of Bishkek garrison opened a criminal case. Three suspects were asked to be taken into custody, but the court placed them under house arrest.
