Protests in Kazakhstan: Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan issues statement

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Kyrgyzstan made a statement about the situation in Kazakhstan.

It says that Kyrgyzstan is closely and anxiously following the recent events in fraternal Kazakhstan. «The Kyrgyz Republic, based on the strong kinship ties between the two peoples and allied relations between the two states, is sincerely interested in the stable social, economic development and prosperity of Kazakhstan. Kyrgyzstan has always been and remains close to fraternal Kazakhstan and is ready to provide all possible support and assistance as it has always been in the history of relations between our peoples. We are confident that the wisdom and foresight of the Kazakh people and their leadership will prevail, which will help maintain peace and harmony,» the statement reads.

We are convinced that this is only possible by combining all efforts and building a civilized dialogue within a legal framework. Today as never before it is important to find a mutually acceptable solution and prevent further escalation of the situation.

From the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan

It is stressed that violence, lawlessness and provocations, as well as irresponsible calls for offenses will not lead to overcoming urgent problems, but only worsen the situation of ordinary people.

«We sincerely wish peace, stability and unity to the fraternal people of Kazakhstan for the sake of sustainable development of the country and the well-being of every Kazakhstani citizen. Expressing confidence that the neighboring republic is able to resolve the current situation independently and without outside interference, Kyrgyzstan as an ally and strategic partner once again confirms its readiness to provide all possible support to the brotherly Kazakhstan, if necessary,» the Foreign Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

The protests are taking place in cities of Kazakhstan for several days due to an increase in the cost of liquefied gas — its price was increased from 60 to 120 tenge per liter since January 1. Protests, which escalated into clashes with the police and riots, took place in several cities of the republic, including Nur-Sultan and Almaty.

The state of emergency has been introduced throughout Kazakhstan. The government of Kazakhstan has resigned. The Chairman of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan was also replaced, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev became the new chairman instead of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The President of Kazakhstan turned to the CSTO for help. The organization decided to send peacekeeping troops.
