Russian expert and journalist Arkady Dubnov told 24.kg news agency about the true reasons for the visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan.
According to him, the second president of Uzbekistan came to office, most likely, for a long time and, in accordance with this, he is building his regional strategy in Central Asia, defined as the dominant of the new foreign policy of Tashkent.
«Relations with Uzbekistan’s neighbors in theory shouldn’t dependent on the personalities of their leaders. Therefore, it is important to maintain the continuity of the policies of neighboring countries and their predictability. It is in this context that the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan should be considered: giving the outgoing president Almazbek Atambayev the opportunity to contribute to the settlement of his achievements of the painful — especially the border-problems between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyev acts in his own interests. Thus, he will oblige the next — the fifth — Kyrgyz president, whoever he is, to follow these agreements,» Arkady Dubnov explained.
The visit of the Uzbek leader is also beneficial to Almazbek Atambayev himself from a pre-election point of view.
It is for his candidate, who is supposed to continue the policy of rapprochement of Bishkek with Tashkent, the current government will call for the voting of ethnic Kyrgyz Uzbeks in the south of the country. Arkady Dubnov
Arkady Dubnov is sure that there are no sincere relations in politics, there are only mutual interests and common threats. «Formulating them is difficult, following them is even more difficult. And there are also too sincere politicians, to whom the above is given hard. A thaw is a treacherous thing. Both in nature and in politics. Long before the arrival of real heat, it may be replaced by frost. So warm things should not be taken away... Even in Uzbekistan,» he concluded.
For the first time in 17 years, the President of Uzbekistan paid a state visit to Kyrgyzstan. Yesterday, a bilateral meeting between Almazbek Atambayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev took place. Leaders managed to agree on cross-border issues. Uzbekistan doesn’t object to the construction of hydroelectric power stations in Kyrgyzstan.
