Water consumption in Bishkek increases by 25 percent in summer. Alibek Kanymet uulu, Deputy Director of Bishkekvodokanal municipal enterprise, announced on Birinchi Radio.

According to him, up to 30 percent of the city’s more than 345 wells are kept in reserve in winter.

«The main consumer of drinking water is the population, which accounts for approximately 70 percent of the extracted resource. The increase in water consumption by the population in the spring and summer is due not only to physiological needs, but, above all, to a careless and irrational attitude towards drinking water and its use for irrigating green spaces and garden plots,» Alibek Kanymet uulu said.

He noted that the capital is primarily supplied by two groundwater reservoirs (Alamedin and Ala-Archa).

«To stabilize the groundwater level, an agreement was signed between Bishkekvodokanal and the Alamedin District Water Management Department to provide water supply services to fill the recharge lakes of Orto-Alysh water intake. It supplies over 40 percent of the city’s population and is one of the largest structures in the republic,» Alibek Kanymet uulu added.

According to him, well cleaning is carried out regularly. Overall, the city’s water supply system is operating normally, and emergency situations are resolved within the prescribed timeframe.

It was previously reported that water prices in Bishkek could increase by 50 percent. According to the draft resolution, the base rate for water could be 15.73 soms per cubic meter, and for sewerage — 6.8 soms. These rates have been agreed upon with the Antimonopoly Regulation Service.
