Silk Road Mountain Race has started in Kyrgyzstan. More than 170 people from 35 countries are taking part in the competition.
The route is 1,938 kilometers long with an altitude gain of about 30,460 meters and runs through mountain passes, picturesque valleys, Son-Kul, Chatyr-Kul, and Issyk-Kul lakes.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov took part in the opening of the international cycling marathon.
«The Silk Road Mountain Race has become the most famous in the world not only for the difficulty of the route, but also for the beauty of nature and the friendliness of the local population. This is the best advertisement for our tourism potential. It is gratifying that its popularity and the number of participants are growing every year, including among Kyrgyzstanis. Over the next two weeks and all 1,938 kilometers of the route, we will follow the race and cheer for the participants, admiring their endurance and the beauty of our mountains,» he noted.
Recall, the participant from Germany will dedicate his race to children with cancer in Kyrgyzstan. From August 17 to August 31, Patrick Mayerle from Ravensburg is participating in the Silk Road Mountain Race in the country. Together with the charity organization Umai — Hilfe für Kirgistan e.V (Stuttgart, Germany) and Pomogat Legko Foundation (KR), it is planned to raise money for medicines for children.
