A participant of Silk Road cycling race from Germany will dedicate his race to children suffering from cancer in Kyrgyzstan. Pomogat Legko Foundation reported.
According to it, on August 17-31, 2024, Patrick Mayerle from the city of Ravensburg participates in the Silk Road Mountain Race in Kyrgyzstan. Together with the charity organization Umai — Hilfe für Kirgistan e.V (Stuttgart, Germany) and Pomogat Legko Foundation (Kyrgyzstan), it is planned to raise money for medicines for the children.
As Aizada Pertner, a representative of Umai organization, told 24.kg news agency, this is one of the most difficult cycling races in the world. It starts in Bishkek, passes through several regions and ends in Cholpon-Ata. According to her, the ultramarathon will be held for the sixth time. Participants will have to cover about 2,000 kilometers without outside support. «It is not allowed to help them, they must cope on their own for about 15 days. The race lasts until August 31, some manage to complete the route earlier, and some do not reach the finish line at all,» she said.
Aizada Pertner noted that Patrick Mayerle, having decided to participate in the cycling race in Kyrgyzstan, wanted to bring some benefit to the country.
«He was looking for non-governmental organizations that are involved in projects in the Kyrgyz Republic, and learned about Umai in Stuttgart. Volunteers work for this organization, and all assistance goes entirely to the Kyrgyz Republic. He contacted us in May. We launched crowdfunding, and at present, thanks to friends and colleagues, we have managed to raise 1,500 euros. In order to provide children with cancer with medicines in Bishkek and Osh for six months, we need to raise 7,500 euros, and for a year — 15,000 euros,» Aizada Pertner added.
Today Patrick Mayerle plans to visit young patients in the Oncology Department at the National Centre for Maternal and Child Welfare.
