Kyrgyzstan's budget surplus to decrease to 1 percent of GDP by year-end — EDB

Kyrgyzstan’s state budget surplus amounted to 5.6 percent of GDP in January-May 2024 (1.8 percent of GDP a year earlier). The macroeconomic review of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) says.

«This year, expenditures are growing 2.9 times slower than revenues. State budget revenues increased by 19 percent in January-May. The main increase is associated with the receipt of value-added taxes (+22.3 percent) against the backdrop of high activity in domestic trade and growth in imports. Expenditures, including costs of acquiring non-financial assets, increased by 6.6 percent. The largest increase in expenditures was for the purposes of development of the fuel and energy complex, agriculture, mining, and general public services. We believe that during 2024, budget policy will remain restrained, while the surplus will decrease by the end of the year to 1 percent of GDP in accordance with the approved plan of the republican budget,» EDB analysts note.
