More than 100 people killed in earthquake in northwest China

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit Jishishan County, Gansu Province in northwest China. According to the latest data, 111 people were killed, Xinhua reported.

The earthquake occurred on Monday at 11.59 p.m. Beijing time at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter of the tremors was in the village of Liugou, about eight kilometers from the administrative center of Jishishan County.

As a result of the earthquake, houses, roads and other infrastructure facilities were damaged. It also caused interruptions in electricity and water supply in several villages.

About 580 rescuers, 88 fire engines, and 12 search dogs are involved in eliminating the consequences of the earthquake.

Passenger and freight trains passing through the area have been suspended.
