At least 27.6 million people are engaged in forced labor, 22 million are in forced marriage. Marlis Dzhumabaev, deputy head of the Council on Migration and Combating Human Trafficking, said at a meeting of the Secretariat of the Council.
He noted that more than half of the slaves are women and girls (54 percent).
According to Marlis Dzhumabaev, sexual exploitation remains the most common form of coercion (50 percent), followed by forced labor (38 percent).
He added that human trafficking is closely linked to external migration. According to various sources, more than 1 million Kyrgyzstanis are abroad.
«Unfortunately, students in grades 8-9 are already preparing for labor migration. Explanatory work is needed. We often say that we must bring information to our citizens so that they do not become victims of crimes, so that human rights are not violated. There is an urgent need for the Ministry of Education to carry out active work, an information campaign and to promote education,» Marlis Dzhumabaev stressed.
