Authorities of Turkmenistan have asked the Government of Turkey to introduce a visa regime for Turkmen citizens. Press release of the country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry says.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan emphasizes that it asks to introduce a visa regime temporarily. The purpose of the request is «to improve and introduce on a systematic basis the rules for the stay of citizens of Turkmenistan in Turkey.» The ministry did not report on the duration of the temporary visa regime for Turkmen citizens.
The introduction of a visa regime by Turkey for citizens of Turkmenistan will affect hundreds of thousands of Turkmen migrants and thousands of residents of the country who are trying to go there to earn money after the partial opening of international air traffic, Radio Azatlyk reports.
Turkmen citizens now can enter Turkey without a visa and stay in the country for up to 30 days. Therefore, it has become the main direction of labor migration for the citizens of Turkmenistan. In addition, about 20,000 Turkmen students study there.
