UNESCO adopts resolution on preservation of mountain glaciers

At a meeting of the 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO on November 23, 2021 in Paris (France), the member states unanimously supported adoption of the resolution «Expanding monitoring and research of mountain glaciers». Press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The issue was raised by the Kyrgyz Republic and voiced by the President Sadyr Japarov at the General Debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in September in New York. The main purpose of the resolution is to strengthen international cooperation on monitoring and research of mountain glaciers and permafrost. It is planned to implement this through joint actions to provide future generations with a safe and stable environment based on the principles of sustainable development and implementation of the 2030 agenda.
