Kichi-Kapka checkpoint in Talas region of Kyrgyzstan, which was closed on the initiative of the Kazakh side in 2010, will be opened for passage of citizens of the two countries. The Chairman of the State Border Service Ularbek Sharsheev stated.

The decision was made within the framework of the state visit of the leader of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Kyrgyzstan on November 27.

During the meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, the heads of the two states discussed the need for joint reconstruction of Ak-Zhol (Kyrgyzstan) — Kordai (Kazakhstan) checkpoints. This should create more comfortable conditions for citizens crossing the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border.

The heads of the countries also decided to increase the operating time of Karkyra checkpoint in Issyk-Kul region. Its full-fledged functioning will primarily allow residents of the region to develop cross-border trade and economic cooperation, including export of their agricultural products to Kazakhstan. Karkyra checkpoint currently works seasonally — in the warm season.

The heads of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan stressed the need for speedy completion of domestic procedures on changing the status of Ken-Bulun and Tokmok checkpoints from bilateral to multilateral that would allow foreigners to cross the border at this site.
