Blind and Deaf Society sues human rights defender Kalicha Umuralieva

Members of the Kyrgyz Blind and Deaf Society have filed a lawsuit against the Director of Nashe Pravo Public Foundation Kalicha Umuralieva for compensation for non-pecuniary damage. The sum is 839,600 soms.

As the human rights activist told 24.kg news agency, she was handed the lawsuit the day before. «I repeatedly raised the issue on social networking websites that the management of the Society distributes the state apartments, allocated for the blind and deaf, among the relatives. And I demanded to provide assistance to the people with disabilities through state bodies, and not NGOs,» Kalicha Umuralieva explained.

She stressed that her speeches outraged the management of the Society of the Blind and Deaf. «However, for some reason they filed a claim for compensation of moral damage, although what moral damage can be inflicted on a legal entity? They do not raise a question of business reputation,» the human rights activist told.

Kalicha Umuralieva repeatedly raised the issue that money was allocated to the Blind and Deaf Society from the budget. «Every year, the society is allocated 39 million soms from the budget, and the Society of Veterans — 8 million. This is contrary to the norms of budget law,» she posted on social networks in November 2018.
