Russian Customs confiscate 11,000 packs of illegal cigarettes from Kyrgyzstan

Employees of Chelyabinsk Customs (Russia) detained a driver who was transporting a batch of illegal cigarettes from Kyrgyzstan with a cost of more than 1 million rubles. Kommersant reports.

At least 22 boxes with 11,000 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps were transported by a private trader in a Toyota Land Cruiser car. The driver explained that he carried tobacco products exclusively for personal consumption.

The goods were confiscated and handed over to police officers, the issue of opening of a criminal case is being considered. The maximum penalty for the offence is up to three years in prison with a fine.
