Candidates for mayor of Bishkek to take Kyrgyz language exam

Candidates for the post of mayor of Bishkek will take the Kyrgyz language exam. The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Bishkek Territorial Election Commission starts receiving documents for registration of candidates. Deadline for submitting documents is February 19. Meeting of the Language Commission will take place the same day.

Under the law, factions and coalitions of the Bishkek City Council as well as the Prime Minister have the right to nominate the mayor candidates.

Candidates must submit the following documents: decision on nomination of a candidate, a statement of consent to run for the post, biographical information including the name, surname, patronymic, date of birth, place of work, position and place of residence.

 Mayoral elections will be held on February 27. Previous mayor of Bishkek Kubanychbek Kulmatov voluntarily resigned on February 9 and told reporters that he was going to leave Kyrgyzstan for a while. Aigul Ryskulova was appointed the acting mayor of Bishkek.
