Cigarettes in Kyrgyzstan to rise in price again

Since January 1, 2017 increased the basic rate of excise duty on tobacco products. Kyrgyz President signed the law on March 10, 2015.

According to the document, the basic rates of excise duty in Kyrgyzstan will be gradually equalized with the rates in other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. The law also aims to reduce tobacco consumption in the country.

The rate of excise on filtered cigarettes increased from 750 to 1,000 soms soms per 1,000 pieces. Most of all increased the excise tax on cigarettes without filter - from 100 to 950 soms per 1,000 pieces.

Note, part of the law entered into force in May 2015. Then the fine for violation of legislation on protection of citizens from the harmful effects of tobacco increased up to 500 soms.

Increase of the cost of a pack of cigarettes by an average of 5 KGS is expected by February 2017.

In addition, a number of MPs again offer to increase the excise tax on cigarettes in the next two years. They propose to increase it by 100 soms from July 1, 2017, to January 1, 2018 - 150 soms from January 1, 2019 - by 250 soms.
