Participant of attack on Tekebayev becomes member of Anti-Corruption Council

One of the participants of the attack on the leader of Ata Meken party Omurbek Tekebayev became a member of the Anti-Corruption Business Council under the president. Cholpon Sydykova, a deputy of the Tokmak City Council, announced on her Facebook page.

According to her, Kairat Chokeev, a city council member from Birge-Together faction, is now a member of the Anti-Corruption Business Council.

On December 1, the leader of Ata Meken party, Omurbek Tekebayev, was attacked by a crowd of young men. The politician was hit and his smartphone was taken away. A criminal case was opened on the fact under the article «Robbery» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Omurbek Tekebayev associated the incident with his political activity and attempts to challenge the election results. One of the suspects was detained; the victim’s mobile phone was confiscated from a 23-year-old Ybysh Eshpaev.

The authorities immediately declared that they were not involved in this case. Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev believes that this was not an attack — Tekebayev was simply hit.

The President issued a statement on the same day instructing to conduct a thorough investigation. Sadyr Japarov said later that Tekebayev was beaten by ordinary hooligans. «They just got angry with him, wanted to tell him that they got tired of him, and just wanted to kick him out of the rally,» he said.

It turned out that the deputies of the Tokmak City Council, who were among those who watched the attack on the leader of Ata Meken party, worked at the election headquarters of Sadyr Japarov in January 2021, including Kairat Chokeev.
