Supporters of the leader of Ata Meken party, Omurbek Tekebaev, held a rally near the building of the State Committee for National Security in Bishkek.
Deputy Natalya Nikitenko said that the protesters demanded a thorough investigation into the attack on Omurbek Tekebaev. According to her, the politician was attacked after press conferences and creation of a single platform following the parliamentary elections.
«A large number of people entered the hotel where Omurbek Tekebaev was staying and tried to capture him. After this attempt failed, force was used against the leader of Ata Meken. They beat him and took his cell phone away. We believe that such lawlessness is unacceptable, it is direct pressure on the opposition. A thorough investigation should be carried out,» Natalya Nikitenko said.
The leader of Ata Meken party, Omurbek Tekebaev, was attacked today. According to the politician, about 70 people surrounded him, several young men hit him and took away his cell phone. The attack took place about 100 meters from the Government House.
The politician himself associates the attack with his political activity and attempts to challenge the election results.
