Only 30 percent of medicines laboratorially tested in Kyrgyzstan

Only about 30 percent of medicines are laboratorially tested for quality in Kyrgyzstan. Member of Parliament Aisuluu Mamashova announced today at a press conference.

"Unfortunately, the quality of drugs on the market of Kyrgyzstan leaves much to be desired. Probably, each of us takes drugs, especially in period of influenza. We take medicines, but they do not work. This shows that they are ineffective. I think that every citizen has faced this problem," the MP said.

"The problem starts from the registration, when thorough laboratory tests for the quality of medicines should be carried out, and ends with the control of their efficacy. Unfortunately, the two main functions are given to the Drug Supply Department. But the same agency can not carry out the registration and control itself. How will it punish itself? Here there is a direct conflict of interest," Aisuluu Mamashova added. 

"We have inspected the activity of DSD and found numerous violations, to the point that not more than 30 percent of drugs are laboratorially tested. The rest of them issued to the market just like they are, under some specific arrangements. The prosecutor's office filed several criminal cases. The results will be known to us later," the deputy said.

According to her, there are many problems in the field of access to medicines, including issues with public procurement. "There is a problem also in the law on public procurement, there is overpricing. This is what we are going to work on," Aisuluu Mamashova summed up.
