Uzbekistan insists on construction of small hydropower plants on trans-border rivers

Uzbekistan insists on the construction of small hydropower plants on trans-border rivers, the ambassador of Uzbekistan in Kyrgyzstan Komil Rashidov reported today at a briefing.

According to him, Uzbekistan offers neighboring countries to develop alternative energy sources, particularly solar one. "Tashkent has become an experimental platform. With the help of partners a large solar station is being built. Our opinion on the construction of hydropower plants on rivers hasn't changed: they must take into account the interests of downstream states on the basis of international law. We have always advocated the construction of small hydro objects. The total amount they can give the same amount of energy as larger plants," Komil Rashidov said.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan fears the construction of hydropower stations in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan due to seismic activity.
