Kyrgyzstan will chair the CIS in 2016. It was said today at the enlarged meeting of the CIS Heads of State.
Today the year of Kazakhstan's chairmanship ends. President Nursultan Nazarbayev will officially hand over the reins of power to the head of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev.
Leaders of CIS countries discussed joint counter-terrorism measures, regional security and cooperation in the matter of law enforcement agencies. Russian military action in Syria was also discussed.
In 2016, the CIS will celebrate the 25th anniversary. The next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State will be held in Kyrgyzstan on September 16, 2016.
A little later, the heads of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Armenia will gather for a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
