President of Kyrgyzstan criticizes Minister of Agriculture

President Sooronbai Jeenbekov criticized the Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation Nurbek Murashev for poor performance. The Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic reports.

Sooronbai Jeenbekov today received the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nurbek Murashev, and raised the issue of export of agricultural products.

According to Nurbek Murashev, this year the price of potatoes is lower than in the past, and is 5-7 soms per kilogram. In 2017, it cost 8-10 soms.

Annually, the price of potatoes in October is slightly lower than in other months. We assume that prices will rise from mid-November. Negotiations over the export of potatoes and other products with Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan are underway.

Nurbek Murashev

In 2017, potatoes were cultivated on 83,200 hectares, this year — on 84,500 hectares. The total harvest is 1.5 million tons, while the internal demand of the republic is 800,000-900,000 tons. About 600,000 tons of potatoes will be exported.

The head of state criticized the lack of work on forecasting the pricing policy in the market and marketing of agricultural products. Export of agricultural products along with processing is one of the most important measures aimed at supporting the hard work of farmers, and therefore the development of the country’s economy.

Export of agricultural products should be a priority in the activities of the Ministry of Agriculture.
