SCNS tells about content it is monitoring on social networking sites

The State Committee for National Security cannot timely block websites that disseminate information of an extremist nature. Representatives of the committee said this today at a meeting of the Parliament, answering questions from deputies.

According to the special services, specialists can reveal a resource with radical religious content, but they cannot block or restrict access to it. There is the same situation with social networking sites. «That is, our experts can find a distributor, let’s say, but it’s not possible to block them immediately,» the SCNS noted.

Intelligence agencies have detected 51 information resources where prohibited materials are posted. The court ruled to block 16 websites, eight accounts in social networks were closed.

MP Dastan Bekeshev asked how SCNS officers dealt with those users of social networks who inadvertently «like» a distributor of religious posts or mark him in publications on their pages.

«It makes no sense to bring them to criminal responsibility. We just do not have enough prisons for everyone. Maybe, we should introduce fines,» said Dastan Bekeshev.

Representatives of SCNS explained that users’ ‘likes’ were not a criminal act. Experts track distributors in a network, and not those who visit their profiles.

«But if a person «liked» a post of a radical or shared it, this is also a distribution, isn’t it?» Dastan Bekeshev did not agree.

Representatives of SCNS stressed that such a user would fall into the zone of attention of specialists, and security officers would monitor his actions on social networks.
