About 2,000 victims of torture appealed to the prosecutor’s office for 6 years in Kyrgyzstan. A psychiatrist Aida Parpieva told at the presentation of the study Cost of Legal, Medical and Social Consequences of Torture.
Meanwhile, according to her, there is a difference between the number of victims of torture and those who turned to the prosecutor’s office.
«No more than 60 percent of victims of torture go to the prosecutor’s office. According to the torture index, every third detainee faced it. When people are not aware of their rights, tolerance for torture appears. When the state does not pay attention to it, confidence in state bodies decreases, anxiety appears in the society, which subsequently affects the country’s economy,» said Aida Parpieva.
