Civil activist Mavlyan Askarbekov was appointed a deputy head of Pervomaisky district of Bishkek. The mayor’s office confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.

An official order has already been signed by the mayor of Bishkek Aziz Surakmatov.

Mavlyan Askarbekov himself is unavailable for comment. He was released from penalty by decision of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan today.

In July, the Bishkek City Court ruled on the appeal against the sentence of the Pervomaisky District Court within a criminal case against Mavlyan Askarbekov. He was accused of public calls for violent seizure of power. Mavlyan Askarbekov was found guilty. However, the city court revoked the decision of the district court on payment of a fine in the amount of 50,000 soms and written undertaking not to leave the city.
